syllabus and completion pre-requisites
This is not a course in the true sense of the word since it, in fact, represents only
the examination all the FI students are expected to pass by the end of their sixth term.
The requirements for the written examination are as follows:
all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of Angličtina pro jazykové školy I
and II + all the lecture materials + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts dealt with
in the VB035 and VB036 courses (for further details, please see the VB035 and VB036 syllabi).
To be considered "passed", the student must reach the average score of at least 60 percent.
The oral examination requirements:
The oral exam requirements: a presentation on a computer-related topic
(length: at least 5 minutes), all the vocabulary, grammar and phrases contained
in Angličtina pro jazykové školy I and II and the specialized computer terminology
contained in the teaching materials (specialized texts specified above + lecture
materials).

Every student attending the seminar has to sit for four tests - two
quarter-term tests (Weeks 4 and 9) , one mid-term test submitted on one of
the days of the Week 7, and the final VB035 one (submitted during or after
the Week 12).
The requirements for the Quarter-Term Test 1 are as follows: all the
vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-15 of Angličtina pro
jazykové školy I + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts read and
listening exercises heard up to the Week 4 (inclusive).
The requirements for the Mid-Term Test are as follows: all the vocabulary,
grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-20 of Angličtina pro jazykové
školy I + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts read and listening
exercises heard up to the Week 7.
The requirements for the Quarter-Term Test 2 are as follows: all the
vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-24 of Angličtina pro
jazykové školy I and those of the Units 1-3 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy
II + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts read and listening
exercises heard up to the Week 10 (inclusive).
The requirements for the final VB035 test are as follows: all the
vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-24 of Angličtina pro
jazykové školy I + all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the
Units 1-5 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + all the specialized
vocabulary of the texts read and listening exercises heard up to the Week
12.
To complete the course, the student must reach at least 60 percent of the
total (maximum) number of points that can be attained for all the tests. The
students coming to a seminar without their homework will be considered
absent from it.
Každý student navštěvující seminář píše čtyři testy - dva čtvrtsemestrální
(v průběhu týdnů 4 a 9), jeden půlsemestrální v průběhu sedmého týdne a
konečný test předmětu VB035 (v průběhu dvanáctého týdne).
Požadavky na první čtvrtsemestrální test jsou následující: veškerá slovní
zásoba, gramatika a veškeré fráze z kapitol 1-14 učebnice Angličtina pro
jazykové školy I + věškerá odborná slovní zásoba všech přečtených odborých
textů a poslechových cvičení, se kterými se na seminařích doposud pracovalo.
Požadavky na půlsemestrální test jsou následující: veškerá slovní zásoba,
gramatika a veškeré fráze z kapitol 1-20 učebnice Angličtina pro jazykové
školy I + věškerá odborná slovní zásoba všech přečtených odborých textů a
poslechových cvičení, se kterými se na seminařích doposud pracovalo.
Požadavky na druhý čtvrtsemestrální test jsou následující: veškerá slovní
zásoba, gramatika a veškeré fráze z kapitol 1-24 učebnice Angličtina pro
jazykové školy I + veškerá slovní zásoba, gramatika a veškeré fráze z
kapitol 1-3 učebnice Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + věškerá odborná
slovní zásoba všech přečtených odborých textů a poslechových cvičení, se
kterými se na seminařích doposud pracovalo.
Požadavky na konečný test jsou následující: veškerá slovní zásoba, gramatika
a veškeré fráze z kapitol 1-24 učebnice Angličtina pro jazykové školy I +
veškerá slovní zásoba, gramatika a veškeré fráze z kapitol 1-5 učebnice
Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + věškerá odborná slovní zásoba všech
přečtených odborých textů a poslechových cvičení, se kterými se na
seminařích během uplynulých dvanácti týdnů pracovalo.
Aby student získal zápočet, součet bodů za všechny jeho testy musí činit
alespoň 60% maximálního počtu bodů dosažitelného za všechny testy dohromady.
Studenti, kteří nebudou mít na semináři vypracovaný domácí úkol, budou
považováni za nepřítomné.

Every student attending the seminar has to sit for two tests - a mid-term test submitted on one of the days of Week 6,
and the final VB036 one (submitted during Week 13).
The requirements for the Mid-Term Test are as follows: all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases
of Lessons 7 - 11 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts
read and listening exercises heard up to Week 6.
The requirements for the final VB036 test are as follows: all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases
of Lessons 7 - 16 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts
read and listening exercises heard up to Week 13.
To complete the course, the student must reach at least 60 percent of the total (maximum) number of
points that can be attained for all the tests. The student is allowed to be absent from classes for up
to four times. Two of these must be properly excused (a letter of excuse signed by a person of authority
(doctor, judge) and duly submitted to the Office for Studies). The students coming to a seminar without
their homework will be considered absent from it.
Každý student navštěvující seminář píše dva testy - jeden půlsemestrální v průběhu 6. týdne
a konečný test předmětu VB036 (v průběhu 13. týdne).
Požadavky na půlsemestrální test jsou následující: veškerá slovní zásoba, gramatika a veškeré fráze
z kapitol 7 - 11 učebnice Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + veškerá odborná slovní zásoba všech
přečtených odborných textů a poslechových cvičení, se kterými se na seminářích doposud pracovalo.
Požadavky na konečný test jsou následující: veškerá slovní zásoba, gramatika a veškeré fráze z kapitol
7 - 16 učebnice Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + veškerá odborná slovní zásoba všech přečtených
odborných textů a poslechových cvičení, se kterými se na seminářích během 13 týdnů pracovalo.
Aby student získal zápočet, součet bodů za všechny jeho testy musí činit alespoň 60% maximálního počtu
bodů dosažitelného za všechny testy dohromady. Studenti smějí být na seminářích nejvýše 4x nepřítomni.
2 z těchto absencí musí být omluveny (řádná omluvenka podepsaná zodpovědnou osobou a řádně podaná na Studijní
oddělení). Studenti, kteří nebudou mít na semináři vypracovaný domácí úkol, budou považováni za nepřítomné.

VB038 - English conversation -
syllabus and completion pre-requisites
The course strives to teach students to give a fluent academic paper on an IT-related subject and increase their
potential to readily react to their audience's questions and comments. Special attention is paid to sentence
connectors, pronunciation, persuasive force of the message projected, advanced grammar structures typical of
academic speech, and other related areas.
The course is based mainly on the conversation on specialized topics related to computing
and informatics. Advanced knowledge of English is required since the whole
course is given in this language.

Every student who wants to take an examination in this subject has to submit a translation
(1 page A4, double - spaced) accompanied by their own English résumé of the passage
(no longer than 10 lines) and the original English text (remember to enclose the bibliographical information!).
The total length of the translation and résumé should not therefore exceed 1 page (A4, double - spaced, reasonable font size) and
10 lines or should not be considerably shorter.
Both the translation and the original text should be inserted into the envelope titled VB038 Translations
hanging on the noticeboard next to the room C507 at least three weekdays prior to the examination proper.
The examination of the students failing to meet one or more of the requirements mentioned above will automatically
be considered failed and the students will not be allowed to sit for its oral part!!
The oral part of the examination consists in a discussion of specialized topic (that of the translation)
as well as questions pertaining to the grammatical and vocabulary areas dealt with in the seminars.

VB039 is a complementary course to VB035 and its aim is to give students a lot of practice in advanced language
and communication skills and to help them communicate more effectively by improving their grammatical knowledge
and developing IT-related vocabulary. The broad range of lesson themes includes computer architecture, computer
applications, peripherals, operating systems, graphical user interfaces and applications programs. For further
